Need Help Building/Retrofitting Bass Amp

2 Attachment(s)
My wife is the bass player and she has an old small amp and I want to remedy that.

So, I have this old piece of ham radio gear that was her father's. It's cool looking and I've gutted it down to the faceplate, chassis and cover. I want to take an old tube amp and retrofit it into this piece. A solid state amp won't work because of where the knobs (pots) and switches have to go. It would be used for practice and for gigs.

I'm looking for some advice on what would be a good way to proceed, what would be a good amp to use for the retrofit, or if anyone has one they would like to sell.

The radio piece has sentimental value to her, so that's why I want to use it. The pics are what it looks like.

Thanks in advance!

What are the dimensions of that box?

Probably shouldn't have gutted that thing, as there is probably a ham guy out there who would've wanted it. But if it's a sentimental thing, then do what you want.

Bad news is that the size is pretty small. You'll have a hard time cramming anything more than a 15W tube amp in there, and 15W is not going to be loud enough for gigs unless she plays with acoustic guitars and no drums.

How much power are you trying to stuff in there?

This is a 15W tube amp. Gives you an idea of how much real-estate you need.
