| | | Need help building a rig! So, i'm finally going to upgrade my combo to a rig since i need more power, but I just can't decide what to take. I don't even know that much from amps and cabs .
So, my budget is about 900-1000€. I play mostly metal music (aiming for a sound like LoG, DevilDriver and Trivium has mostly). Was thinking about getting Hartke 4.5XL for a cab. Anyone have experience or better suggestions for cab?
The bigger problem though is the amp, since I really don't know jackshit about them. Been reading the forum alot lately and noticed alot of people using ampeg amps. They are just hard to get them used here in Finland. Though all used ones are under a rock in here, so both cab and amp kinda needs to be bought as new.
Oh and also, I play with pick and using a 5string Esp.
Thanks for the help in advance !
(English not my native language so sorry for my bad construct on the post :P) |

I use alot more then I need to get a good "Progressive Metal" tone, but I have used my Sansamp programmable DI with an Ashdown 2x10 Mag combo and even though I couldn't get very loud it sounded awesome.
My actual rig is:
Carvin B2000
Line 6 Bass pod XT?
Sansamp DI
into either a GK 4x12 or a Kustom 2x15
I get a pretty good tone using that stuff, but a sansamp into any amp and cab should yield good results as long as your EQ and technique are going in the right direction.

| | | | Thanks for answering! Can't really get my hands on to a Sansamp so thats out of the question =/. Do you think Peave Tour 700 would be a good purchase, could get it pretty cheap now? Good thoughts for a cab on to that thing?
Cab about the price range of max 450-500€ (600$?).

| | | Doesn't really fit into the budget T_T. God dammit they are expensive . Also not in need of cab that size, smaller will do too. |

| | | | Try any amp that is able to do a reasonable "Ampeg-like" - Sound.
Best one in my row of amps is the Peavey T-Max. Pushing the tube hard, it will give you the sound you need.
Even my much more modern GenzBenz GBE 1200 is able to do what they call "heavy-sound". I use both preamps, pushing the tube hard and mixing the two channels.
Best "original" I have is my Ampeg SVP Pro - preamp. It will push any poweramp up to a fine metal tone. I use it with a cheap Thoman-poweramp that is able to deliver 2 x 700 Watt @ 4 Ohm. Fine sound! Really!
You are wellcome to use any cab you like. A single 15" may be a not enough, but instead of that "holy-grail" Ampeg 810''-fridge use one 410''-cab, and get it up to the level of your ears. If there is some money left in some time, you can add a second one to get the 810''-feeling.
Most important: It is YOUR sound, so go and try out any amp/cab - combination you are able to get. You have to find the sound that fits YOUR needs. And the needs of your band, of course.
Ciao
Uwe

| | | TheRealKong thanks for answering ! So you think any 4x10cab would do? Like the hartke B 4.5XL that I was firstly thinking of? But yeah, I suppose I need just to start testing out the amps and see what is the best one for my sound! Just so hard to decide what to get so I can get myself heard over from the guitars and drums!
Also a stupid question: can I use a 8ohm cab (4x10) with 4ohm amp? |

| | | Okay so I ended up buying the Peavey tour 700 head! Tested it and fell in love, got it pretty low price too! So now the big question, the cab ! I would really apreciate if someone would tell me a good cab about at 450€ or less. Can't continue searching since the work.... Bahh |

| | | Maybe something like this? http://www.thomann.de/fi/tc_electronic_bc410.htm
Thread about it here: TC Electronics BC410
But it's 4 ohm, so you won't be able to add another cab later if you need more volume. Also it may be over your budget with shipping cost added.
This is also a good option: http://www.thomann.de/fi/peavey_410tvx_8ohm.htm
It's 8 ohm, but only 350W so you'll have to be careful when cranking the volume. Heavy, too. But sounds very good for the price. You'll be able to add another later if you need more volume and that combination should work very well with your amp (each cab will handle half the power, so the quoted specs for the amp and cabs will match) Same brand, too.
Thread here: Peavey 410 TVX 4ohms

If Finland is anything like NZ for crazy prices on gear you can pay for postage and not lose anything if you don't like it. Some sellers don't want to know about popping a pedal in the international mail but more are fine with it.
Then all you need is a plain old power amp and a cab.
