need help on buying amp head

Sign in to disble this ad
Guys, I apologize in advance for the newbie question...

I've always been a combo amp guy, but I couldnt pass up MUSIC123's deal this week for a Gallien-Krueger Goldline 410GLX 4x10 Bass Speaker Cabinet for $134 shipped. [400 watts, 8 ohms]

So....now I need a relatively inexpensive head to accompany that cab. I've been reading in this forum on matching ohms, closely matching wattage, etc. Can anyone provide me some guidance on what head I can purchase that will mesh well with the cab I purchased and that wont break the bank for myself?

Thanks in advance!!

We don't know what your "break the bank" is; a number would be helpful.

On TB a well regarded head is the GK Backline 600. 300 watts. They've been makin' 'em for years and they keep selling--that tells you something.

They show up used on TB from time to time.

And here's a not unusual testimonial: I sold mine, and often wish I hadn't!

I would say I would prefer to spend less than $300 if possible...

I have found an Acoustic B200H for $200...good price?

No one has mentioned this: The cab is 8 ohms. Using a 4 ohm head, is that not preferred?

you'll get anywhere from half to 3/5 of the wattage if you run your head at 8 ohms, so for that reason i'd get something more powerful than the b200h (plus i think you can do better), but it never hurts to run a solid state or hybrid head that will do 4 ohms at 8.

If you can spend abut $450, you ought to be able to get a used GB Shuttle 6.0. Check TB classifieds. No, I'm not selling mine, LOL!
