Just got it home plugged it in my ampeg 410 and it's barely audible and farty sounding. Kinda like when your battery goes dead in an active bass. Played it at the store last week and it was fine. Tried different cords. Even played it through a different cab and headphones same thing. Help is greatly appreciated. WTH is the matter with this thing?? I thought had found my soulmate until this.

Have you checked the 2 ohm switch on back or your active switch? I started with that and all knobs at 12 o' clock to start then go from there....I Loved my BX500 just some things to try.

That was the first thing I did. Still nothing. I'm assuming it takes just one speaker cable to the cabinet. Weird thing is it's doing it in the headphones. Weird. Does it with the tube bypass button on and off. No difference. I've messed the knobs and all the button front and back.

Also check the effects loop by plugging a cord from send to return and wiggling it, etc. If the head is brand new, it's kind of unlikely that's the problem.

Check the basics like Harry said. Then call Carvin support. Some things you can't fix yourself.

just checked on that then ran my other head through both cabs with diff. cords and basses and it worked fine. Something is hinky. THe "new" head was a used purchase from guitar center. It worked great when I tried it like 3 days ago. It's got me stumped. Any history with these bx500 doing this??

OOOK...as long as I hold it up on it's left side and shake it til it stops crackling it sounds great. It has to be on it's left side. If I try to sit it down VERY easy it stops again. SOmething is loose in there. I'm taking it back. Too bad, I really like the way it sounds and my Marshall pedal seems to work for the mute pedal option. DOH! You get what you pay for...sometimes less.

why don't you pull the top cover off and just take a peek inside....see if anything is obvious? only about 10-14 philips head screws.
