Need Help Choosing Bass Cab

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Everyone,
I am currently in the market for a new bass cab. I am getting really tired of dragging around my SVT refridgerator cab. I do not really have a lot to spend. My budget is $600-$800. I have looked at the GK NEO's, GK MBX, Mesa 2x12. Although the Mesa sounded much cleaner to me, I was kind of partial to the GK MBX 410 paired with an MBX 115, as I am not totally sold on the NEO's in the GK or Mesa. The MBX series seems a bit on the cheap side though. I also liked the GK NEO 412 reasonably well, although the NEO's seem brittle. I would like something with nice low end as I play Chapman Stick as well as bass. I would love to have lots of opinions on this! Thanks in advance for the advice.

That is a pretty good budget. If you are looking for a lightweight "do it all" cab, consider an Epifani UL-2 on the used market. They are super light, handle 1000 watts, come in a 4 ohm version and can be carried in one hand! You can't lose with a cab like that if you need it to be portable and sound good.

Having said that, I use Mesa cabs as the tone outweighs the price and bulk.

Hi JR,

I've been using a pair of Bag End S15LX-D cabs for years (most of the time I only use one). These are the warmest full-range cabs I've tried. Very natural highs from the coax tweeter. I have no idea what they sell for these days, and I think the LX-D is actually something you have to order direct from Bag End as it's a little deeper front-to-back dimension.

Happy Tapping,
Greg
