NEED HELP: Connecting 2 cabinets to my Orange Bass Tiny Terror? Impedence question.

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Guys,
I have a 500w Orange Bass tiny Terror. Its switchable from 4 to 8ohms.

i have been playing with a Peavey TVX410 (Peavey 4x10 8ohm Bass Cabinet (350 watts (rms) continuous, 700 watts (rms) program) but recently bought one of the Orange SP210 600 watts RMS 8ohm cabinets for playing at home / small gigs.

My questions is this: Can i run these 2 cabinets in parallel from my head?

Im assuming yes - but the impedence is doing my head in. Because i am connecting TWO 8ohm cabs to my head, using the basic formula: 8(ohms) / 2(cabs) = 4(ohm total impedence) means i would switch the head to 4ohm?

I know this might be a silly question but hey - im still learning this stuff

thanks a million!

Yep! Switch the head to 4 ohms, plug in both cabs, and rock the freakin' block.

sorry i_should_clarify this....

the HEAD has 2 outputs on the back. so i was going to run one output to the 4x10 Peavey and the other output to the 2x10 Orange.

This is what i have learnt as running them in parallel as opposed to series.

Neither of the cabinets have a in/out (as far as i can remember) so in basic diagram terms it will be running like this:

__(8ohm)______(set to 4 ohm)____(8ohm)___
Peavey 4x10 << Orange Head >> Orange 2x10

and not like this:

_(set to 4 ohm)____(8ohm)________(8ohm)___
Orange Head >> Peavey 4x10 >> Orange 2x10

It is the same to the amp head either way. The amp will "see" a 4 ohm load if you use both output connectors or daisy chain from one.

That's fine, doesn't matter.

Most cabs have two input jacks on them--so double-check yours to see for sure. If they do, 99% of the time those are parallel connectors, so you would be able to connect them as in your second image. But the first way works exactly the same.

One thing to be aware of is that the power from the amp will be divided equally between the cabs, so half the power will be going to only two speakers (the Orange). This means if you really crank the amp up loud, you have to pay special attention to the Orange, listening for any audible sign that its speakers are distorting, to avoid blowing them.

that orange is the little isobaric box, with two tens stuffed into a box the size of a 1x10 cab, right?

with that thing sucking up half the power of the head, it might actually be less loud overall than the 4x10 by itself.

i'd leave the orange at home.

So i tried it and it works great. Sound is exactly what i was looking for. i get the big bottom end that i have been getting from the peavey (tweeters turned off) and then a bit of mids from the orange cab. ill keep any eye open for any issues but all works well! thanks for all your help!

Stack the 210 on top so those speakers will be closer to your ears...it'll be easier to hear them crying "stop...please stop...I can't take anymore!"....

But you'll probably be fine.
