I'm going to start by putting the original pups back in my jazz bass. Then I'll program a graphic EQ in my zoom B3, then I'll make a few tweaks to my amp and we'll see where to go from there.

I'm liking the idea of adding a 115 to the 410s I currently have tho. But first I'll see if I can't make due with what I already have.
What do you think a 115 will add?

I think you need to work with what you have, or start feom scratch.

Ya, there doesn't seem to be a volume problem, and adding a 15 would do little if there was.

If you can't get 10's to bring the funk......join a polka band?

Gotcha! This is great! Thanks for all the advice! I especially like it when the advice is "DON'T SPEND MORE MONEY ON GEAR"

that's like the opposite of what I expected. my wallet thanks you all, as do I!

Hey, he was being told there wasn't enough oomph, and the thread title is "need help delivering the boom!" after all. If other frequencies are needed, and if it's too muddy, then roll off the bass a bit and add more of everything else. Why not try it anyway? Not like it costs anything. Better than spending money on another speaker if he finds out that was the only issue.

Anything's worth a shot. I'll make some adjustments.
Do you think the iPhone 4S has a filter or should I boost the 60hz bass eq?

If your budget is REAL tight, get a PA sub.(!!!???)
Back in the 70's, I ran 18's with 8x10's EQ'd as you say and it killed(long hair, spandex days).
3 weeks ago, I got a stupid deal on a bi-amp head(Bugera Nuke) and put an equally low-priced PA sub front-loaded 18(22"x22" footprint) under my 4x8(22x16 footprint) with horn/tweeter cabinet.....The BASS with lots of air moving is back!
I have ACME B2's so I'm used to real lows....but 18's are something else.

Tonight I'm going to A/B the stingray and jazz bass at my gig. I returned the jazz bass to factory default yesterday by putting the original pups in. Not sure if I did a good job as there is a lot of humming... But that could be the grounding/electrical in my apt.
I'll just take my mb210 + 210mbe setup tonight and try to make it work with the eq advice given. I'll program a graphic eq for my zoom b3

Not really an amp-related solution, but when I've played through other people's rigs and noticed lack of my usual "oomph," I've found it easy to dial it in with my VT Bass pedal.

It's an always-on pedal for me (even with my own rig, I don't get the fullness I like without it), usually with knobs set and left at my favorite configuration, but if I am playing through a rig other than my own, I will adjust the lows knob if necessary to bring forth the fatness I'm used to. I've found it to be surprisingly useful for this sort of thing.

That is the camera or youtube's doing, not a true representation.

Making those eq tweaks on the whole mix got a far funkier tone. It categorically can't be assumed the same tweaks will work for you but they start you in the right direction looking at your mids.

You already tried boosting lows on the bass and got nowhere.

Last night went really well! My graphic eq has 50, 120, 250, 400, 800, 4.5k, and 10k hz. I may be missing a few. But anyway, I just went with a standard smiley face eq and it sounded great! I only brought the stingray as space was limited in the van. So I'll try out the jazz on Tuesday.
We got the evening recorded. It's going to get a quick mixing, then I'll post some songs.
Boosting 50hz seemed to really help bring the BOOM and my 2 210s did just fine. I don't really need to add a 115...

I'm actually pretty satisfied with the tone I got on this particular night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngx17...ature=youtu.be

The key was in boosting the low-mids IMO.

Sounds like you are figuring out how to EQ for each show. Nice work! Keep experimenting.

Bringing the funk!

The sub content is still a bit thin on the recording so hard to judge the overall effect but you must be on the right track.
