More info would be helpful. Do you want a combo or separate head and cabinet? Is this mainly for home practice or do you gig? Do you have a budget?

If you live near a Guitar Center, then go there and play their amps new or used, I'm sure you can find something .

If I were you I would get an Ampeg SVT classic head on top of an Ampeg 810. You would be set, as long as you have about $2000 laying around...

While we need more information to help you out, I'd recommend Peavey amps. I know David Ellefson used some Peavey stuff, and they're good sounding amps. Plus, they're extremely reliable. The Tour 450 head is about $400, and the Headliner is only $350. They both have plenty of power for what you are doing. You can pick up a cab, Peavey or not, for not a whole lot more. I've seen TVX 410 cabs for $200.

Good luck

Look at Hartke's new stuff too. Those aluminium/paper hybrid speaker cones might be just the ticket to your metal tastes.

OP check this out:

Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex and PF-115HE Stack: Shop Bass & Other Musical Instruments | Musician's Friend

Has a $50 rebate right now and you can usually find a 15% off coupon for either MF or GC for Labor Day!

I have the PF-350 head and it's good... Great price on that half-stack. Good choice.
