| | | | Need Help Finding A Lighter Cabinet

I currently play a GK 1001rb through an SWR Goliath III, and occasionally throw in an SWR Son of Bertha for large venues. I love the tone, it's punchy, clear, cut's through, and has a bit of growl. It's probably the best tone I've ever gotten out of any gear. BUT.. I'm sick of carrying 90lb cabinets through crowded clubs at 1:30am after a long night of playing. I finally hit my breaking point this weekend.
I really want to go with something lighter, possibly with neo speakers. My problem is, I don't really have access to anything, so can't really plug in and play through stuff I'd like to.
Based on what I've read here, I'm thinking of snagging one of the following (used if possible):
Epifani UL401
Epifani UL310
GK Neo 410 or 212
Genz Benz Neo ?
Has anybody been fortunate enough to play through SWR compared with the others? I play a Cirrus or Warwick thumb depending on the night. One band is strictly classic rock / dance covers. The other band is an original blues/rock jam band, but with 2 guitars and keys, so I really need to be able to cut through. I'm leaning towards the epi stuff, but based only on review I've read.
Thanks for any advice! |

Put some wheels on it and save your back. Save some money.
You love the tone...best tone you've ever gotten out of any gear...I'd keep the cabinet and just make it more mobile. |

| | | | Oh it's got casters on it. They still don't help when you have to manuever through drunks late at night. Plus, one of the venues we play regularly requires us to walk up a narrow flight of stairs. I'm not selling the SWR stuff, just want to pick up a lighter cab for the nasty gigs. |

Use that for most of your gigs, and you can still add that second cab for the rare times you need more wump. |

| | | | I'll have to see if I can find a Golight cab locally to give it a shot. Thanks for the suggestions.
How do you guys feel about epifani cabs? I know they have a good rep on these boards, and seem to be pretty available on the used market. |

In no way with the 310UL match the output of the GIII. However, the 410UL is a nice alternative to the GIII, since it still has that airy, sizzly top end voicing and relatively polite mids. I was quite happy with that swap.
The newer 410UL's are in the mid 60 pound range, but still quite lightweight. Just like the Golite, you can order a 4ohm or 8ohm version, which is nice, depending on how you are going to use the cab and what type of amplification you have.
If you like the tone of your GIII, the Golite 410 seems to be a bit of a no brainer, if they are available in your area. |

I now use a Genz Benz shuttle 6.0 with a Neox 2x12...
So the difference sans the 40lbs is basically nothing to my ears. Both are extremely clear and crisp with big bottom end. Both rigs sound very similar! |

| | | | Great, thanks guys. That's exactly what I was looking for. I'll see what's available locally this weekend, and hopefully find something.
Thanks again! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
