Need help identifing my SWR cab

Sign in to disble this ad
So my cab was damaged by water at my place and I'm trying to figure out what model it is exactly (for insurance purposes). It's a SWR 410, 8 ohms cab, built in USA. The tag was removed when I bought it, used.

I believe it's a Goliath I or II based on aesthetics. But can anyone confirm this?

here's a picture

Early Goliath I's didn't have the diamond plated front, but I think there might have been some in the later ones that had it before they officially became II's. Looks like a Goliath II, except I thought the diamond pattern was vertical not horizontal. However, someone might have taken it off and not put it back right. The I's were 400 Watts the II's were 500 Watts.

I'd venture to say it's probably a II, they are more common.

Yep, looks like a II series to me as well. Just like the one I had years ago.

Yeah I think its a Goliath II with the grill installed sideways. Does your handles and back side look like these pics?

Here are pictures of the handles and the back control plate.

The handles are the same, but not the controls

Just emailed the guy who sold it to me. He claims it's a workingman 410. I'm not sure about that...

hmmm...the WM 410's that I've seen have square grille holes (like Goliath III) and front ported
like this:

but that control plate looks suspicious. My GII looks exactly like the one in anderbass' photos. I'm not sure how the GI control plate looks.

I have a workingman 410.

I believe there's also the WorkingPro cabs too. Those might be different.
Mine's ported on the bottom tho, unlike yours.

Thus far, I'm going to say it's a Goliath I. Too many differences to be a WM4x10, very similar to my GII save for that control plate...

Tell your insurance company it's a Goliath I, and be happy. :P

If that's the case, it's from Meyer Sound and someone put an SWR badge on it.

Not a WM. The version that looked closest to the Goliath is posted above and has a tweeter switch instead of an attenuator. They were also made of particleboard, so a quick check inside your should also eliminate the WM option. For a while, SWR offered replacement grills for users to match their products from one generation to the next. I would guess your is a Goliath 1 with one of those. I might be wrong though.

Does the back panel say "manufactured exclusively for SWR Engineering by Eden"? It looks like it. If so, it is a series 1.

IIRC what this man says is correct.

As you can see in this picture, yes it does:

Yeap looks like you have a late Goliath I, or a Goliath I where the grill was replaced.

That is what it looked like, but I could not read it that well. What I do know is that Eden used to manufacture cabinets for SWR and the grill switchout was an option in the mid-1990's. It would have made sense for the series 1 because they had cloth covers with one integrated slat of wood protecting each column of speakers. I am not sure that is described well, but what I mean is that a grill upgrade would have been a good idea on this cabinet.
