need help, looking for a new head

Sign in to disble this ad
I currently use a gk backline 600 to power 2 gk blx410 speaker cabs. The head has been giving me trouble for the past few months. I have had it repaired twice.

I was thinking of getting an Ampeg SVT head, as when ki used one in the studio I loved it.

I am not really sure on matching wattage and ohms for my speakers. Would the Ampeg SVT4 be too powerful for my speakers, or is the 3 powerful enough?

the gk blx410 cabs go up to 400 watts at 8 ohms a piece, and i'm not really so sure as the specs of the SVT4 pro, but i know they sound nice. I tried to read about the svt4 pro but got a bit confused.

But, the SVT 3 outputs 275 at 8 ohms, allowing you to drive one cab. And then it drives 450 watts at 4 ohms, allowing you to drive both cabs i believe in parallel (I could be wrong on that, so let someone else correct/confirm that)

I have two blx410's myself, bought 'em used from a guy off craigslist for 100$ and fixed up one cab with a tiny bit of soldering. second cab i haven't even looked at.
