Need help with my GK

I recently took my 1001RB-II to a tech because I had some scratchy pots and occasional volume drops. He replaced the pots and sprayed all my jacks with Deox-It. It sounded great and seemed much louder than before. I was getting plenty of volume with the Volume and Woofer at 9:00 and Boost at 1:00. A few days later the volume drops came back. I brought it back to him and he took another look. He said the jack was extremely corroded and needed to be replaced. He also ran a wire across the effects loop disabling it (per my request) to prevent any problems there. I have it back now and so far haven't noticed any volume drops.

However, my volume levels seem to be back to where they originally were. Is it possible the faulty jack was responsible for my increase in volume as well the drops?

The drops yes, the increase no. The increase after replacing the pots was not right.

B-string knows what he's talking about ^

But I guess I could chime in.

Are you SURE you experienced an increase in volume, and you weren't just really happy to have your GK back? The power amp is only going to be able to put out so much, wether it hits that point with the master at 9:00 or 3:00 doesn't really make much of a difference. If you honestly feel that the amp isn't as loud per master volume setting as it was...then, turn up the master some more

Pretty sure it wasn't in my head. I've been gigging this amp through the same cabs for about 3 years now. I have a fairly good idea where my levels should be. I think there is an underlying issue. Because while I've never had a problem being heard with this amp, I never found it to be the monster many people make it out to be. Which I always chalked up to me not cranking the Master knob in most situations. That is until it came back the first time. Now it feels like owning a V8 that only runs on half it's cylinders.

Maybe your tech messed something up? I just don't see how an amp can all of a sudden be half as loud as before unless someone tampered with the circuitry.
I see that you run 4 12 inch GK neos.
I run 350 watts usually through my 412 neo and it drops my pants every time I get too close. Hmm...

I'm taking it back sometime this week. There is no way I should be able to stand directly in front of this thing with the Volume and Master both at 12:00.

There's rarely a good reason to replace a pot unless it got fried by overvoltage. The cause of the volume increase is likely due to your tech using the wrong taper pot, causing more gain at a given setting.
He should have just sprayed the pots with Fader Lube (also by Caig).

He didn't change any of my volume pots. Just EQ and Contour.

If he didn't use the proper EQ and contour pots, that could have a huge effect on the sound.

But it's not the sound I'm having an issue with it's volume.

Took it to the tech today. He called me about 20 minutes after I left. The problem seems to be a broken trace in the preamp section. Picking it back up tomorrow, no charge.
