Need help with new amp

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi!

I finally got a bass amp(an Artec B35S). Before this i was using a Laney LX20R guitar amp. My problem is this. I can't get a "right" sound from this amp no matter which settings i use. My bass sounded better even on my guitar amp lol. I searched the whole internet but found nothing about these amps and it had no manual either. So i was wondering if any of you knew these kind of amps and could give me sume clues how to use it properly because it sounds horrible.

Inputs:active, passive
-
Bass stabilizer:from min to max
Middle(with Freq Lo to High),Bass,Treble from -10 to +10
Clip from clean to distortion
Contour from heavy to slap

On my guitar amp i used 9-10 bass 7-8 treble and 4-5 mids and it had an okay sound. But with this...

Thanks for the help

Looks to me like a 35 watt 1x10 combo for around $US120.

With 35 watts and 1x10, you'll have a hard time getting a usable bass tone at a decent volume.

Keep all the tone controls to a minimum. Keep it clean. Turn up the volume slowly until it distorts and then turn it down so it's clean.

If your bass sounded better on your guitar amp, I suggest returning the Artec and saving your $$ for a higher end head/cab.

+1. if you can stand to go up a hundy and/or buy used, you can find much more useful small combos.

You can try taking the lows and highs down and increasing the mids. Then use the tone control on your bass to fine tune your sound. IME

Not sure where you're located, but gifts are returned all the time. Ask whoever gave it to you for the receipt. No shame in that if it's not working out.

Or maybe they'll give you store credit that can be applied to a bass cab. Add some of your own cash and get a pretty decent one that you can run with your guitar amp.

The reason for filling out your profile is that it helps others to give you better advice. If you are in the Americas it's not much use recommending stuff that's only available in Europe and vice versa.

By the sound of it your new amp is what we would term a practice amp. Getting usable sounds out of those at a reasonable volume is going to be difficult at best. I'll second Stumbo's advice to return the amp. Fighting your amp is no way to encourage yourself to practice your instrument. It's frustrating enough trying to get your fingers to go where they need to be!

Good luck
