Need help picking an amp

Sign in to disble this ad
I played in a band for years. We dont play anymore so I sold my ampeg 8x10. So I have just been playing my bass out of a small guitar amp. I want to upgrade. I just need something kind of small because it will be in the 2nd bedroom of my house. But I want it to be loud enough if I were to play a gig. I still have my head from my old bass rig.(ampeg b2r) So im thinking maybe a 4 10 cab or a single 15. What sounds better? Pretty much just play rock music. Or sell my head and get a combo amp? just looking for opinions. Thanks

Id have a look at the Ampeg BA series. I had the 300-210 which was great for me! Think you can get a 600 version if you need the extra wattage. Only reason I sold it was for my SWR rig, but I loved the tone I could achieve out of it! Check them out!

There not that heavy either.

If your wanting to go with new cabinets to pair with your B2r head I'd recommend checking into Avatar bass cabinets, say two 210 cabinets.
I use two, 8 ohm, Avatar Neo 210 cabs stacked as a vertical 410. Absolutely love em'.
You could use one cab in the bedroom/rehearsals/small gigs, both cabs when more volume and coverage is needed.
When you vertical stack two 210 cabs you'll get the height advantage of your 810, (top speaker up closer to your ears), but with a smaller foot print on stage.

If you liked the sound of the B2R with the Ampeg 810, then check out the Ampeg Micro VR 210 cabs. They are basically 1/4th of an 810 and sound really good. I'm not much of a 10'splayer (I'm all about 15's) but the micro rig does sound like a miniature vintage SVT. Owen Biddle has been playing one on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon so if it's good enough for him, well there you go. You could start with one 210 for the bedroom, and if and when you need to - you could always add a second for live gigs which would yield a 4 ohm load and get all the wattage out of your head. Would make a nice little stack. Also - the gain and tone stack on the B2R is basicaly configured just like the Micro VR head (minus the graphic) so it should work very well.

+1!!!
Don't know why I didn't think of this and recommended it to rynb15 when I posted ealier...and I even had one of the 210AV micro cabinets for awhile.
The Ampeg 210AV micro cab is probably the easiest to move and lightest, 210 cab available.
