Need help picking a head.

Hey,
I am in the process of purchasing a bass head. I am really stumped as to which one to get. I am seriously open to any kind, just looking for something that has a crisp tone and some push. I have a fender jazz bass and about $900. Any ideas?

I too am in the need for a head. When u said $900, the first amp that came to my mind is the genz benz shuttle 9.0. Around $900 and its 900 watts. I played it through a 2x12 bergantino cab and it sounded great. I also would check out some mesa boogie stuff if that suits ur needs. I personally don't like eden stuff. And I tried the tc electronic stuff and it had a lot of decent tones while the genz benz had a few amazing tones imho. I assume u have a cab. I would find a local store with a lot of different heads and try them all out. U can't go by anything online, only ur ears. Good luck in finding an amp

I like Peavey, Ampeg and GenzBenz.
The Eden stuff I've used didn't do it for me personally (although it was great for other guys) and in my soundman experience was more fragile when touring.

If I were going to pick someone's head, I'd go with one of these.

If you're talking about bass amplification, I'd go with one of these.

You can spend $625 on my Mesa M6 and have a couple hundred left over...

Knowing what cab you have would be useful

Yep, and how much power do you need? What kind of music, generally? Do you care about weight?

If I were you I would look for a MESA/Boogie BASS 400 head. 200 all tube watts at 8 or 4 Ohms. VERY sweet tone, 35 Lbs. can be found for just under $900 if you are lucky. Cheers.

Hey thanks for all the ideas,
I guess I should tell you a little more about this,
Well I help at A LOT of churches and I don't have a cab..yet.
So if you can help me any way with that, it would be much appreciated. Also, weight isn't a big issue for me.
