Need help selecting a bass head

Sign in to disble this ad
So I am new to the whole Bass Cabinet/head stuff. I have been using nice combo amps for a long time. Decided to make the change and have been trying to piece together a decent set. I found a nice set of cabs someone was selling and I am picking them up tomorrow. It's a Carvin RL115 (1 x 15 -- 4 Ohm -- 500W) and a Carvin RL410T ( 4 x 10 --8 ohm -- 600W). I was just wondering what the community would reccomend to power these?

1st Off:

a lot of people will tell you that matching a 15 with a 410 cab is not the best idea....

2nd: Be careful running both of those cabs together, one is a 8 ohm and the other is a 4 ohm.... the one 15" cab will get twice the wattage as the 410 because of the ohm ratings....

The 115 gets twice the power compared to the 410. So, assuming the 115 is a REALLY good speaker that doesn't bottom out, you're limited to 750W for the whole rig. I'd just take the 410.

You will blow heads running both cabs togather. Your impedence will wierd and most heads don't like that I would get just the 4x10 and keep an eye out for an 8 ohm 1x15 to pair it with.

Thanks for the heads up. I may just keep searching. The guy is only selling them for 350$ all together, so should I pick it up and sell off the 1 x 15? Or just keep looking for something better?

It is a total load of 2.67 ohms.

Any head that is 2 ohm capable can run the rig no problem.

That stack was sold as a package from Carvin to use with the "R" series heads that had a built in crossover and 2 seperate power amps. The impedance mismatch was done on purpose to allow the 1X15 to recieve more power (so it could keep up sonically with the 4X10), and allowed for individual volume controls for each cab.
