need help for small combo

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all. 1st post here. I just discovered this site and thinks its great.
I play guitar through a Marshall Class 5,
(5 watt tube amp).
I just got my 12 year old daughter the Gretsch Jet Jr. bass.
Now I'm looking for a small combo that can keep up with the little Marshall between 4-6 on its volume. Not looking for a huge gig ready amp, but would be nice for basement jams. Maybe even a light hitting drummer if she can find any kids at school to play with.
I'd like to keep the price as low as possible. I messed with the Fender Rumble 30 ($179.00)at GC last weekend. Turned it up all the way and sounded good and clean. Was actually impressed. The little Ampegs 110 and 112 models were rather quiet and buzzed and rattled like crazy.
Any thought on the Rumble 30? Any others I should consider? I'd like to keep the price around $200 or so.
Thanks,
Jason

The Fenders are nice, serviceable.

You can get a lot of used Peavey on Craigslist for well under $200.

The rumble 30s are good for what you want to do.. You might also consider one of the Acoustic combos.. but the nice thing about the Rumbles is they kickback..

A great feature. I have a Hartke A100 and always point it up.

Thanks everyone. Was hoping I wasn't going to hear, "get 200 watts minimum"

Well I checked out Musicians Friend before heading down to my local GC to see what deals they had. They (MF) had the Acoustic B100 combo for $199. Then they had a coupon code for another $30 off. So the 100 watt amp end up $10.00 cheaper than the 30 watt Fender. Plus I traded in an old Epiphone 1x12 cab I had lying around unused. Ended up with a heck of a deal. Now I have to hide this beast of a box until Christmas. Oh well my daughter will be happy.

Make the box look like homework. If I were in her shoes, I'd stay away from it!
