Need ideas for bass amp solution for performing on the street

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

Ill be performing bass along with a singer/guitarist at a promenade with a bunch of shops. The singer/guitarist has a Line6 little Spider amp (that's powered by a couple batteries).

I'm currently shopping for a portable bass amp solution.

I currently have a Gallien Krueger MB150.

Do any of you know if a portable power pack can sufficiently power that amp for a few hours? http://www.duracellpower.com/battery...rpack-300.aspx

If not, Ive looked at the Pignose 30, the MicroCube Bass RX, the Phil Jones Briefcase, and the Crate Taxi. I'm not sure if any of these are sufficiently loud enough.

Do any of you have any insights on this?

Budget is < $400

Thanks

This may be a bit of a stretch, but if you can swing the extra $20 and a few pounds, it should out-perform anything in contention thus far.

I just had my new Crate Limo delivered today. Man is this sweet, 50 watts of battery powered output into a 10inch with a piezo tweeter. Mind you, this is a guitar amp, but it has two channels (one clean and one gain driven for distortion) and it sounds great with my bass. It even has some basic effects like chorus and reverb built into the amp. If a guy could get a hold of an old Crate Bus he would have the bass version but they are no longer made and don't come up for sale to often.
Although I have played this less then an hour, I would recommend it highly for it's volume and sound quality. The price is around $375 to $400 but worth it. If you are good with electronics, they have a couple non working units available at MF for $168.

I'm open to portable PAs... the only problem with the Carvin is it says "up to 3 hours".

I do like the Crate Limo but I'm a little worried on if it can handle the lower frequencies of the bass in the long run.

i tried a roland cube RX the other day, it was capable of being way louder than an acoustic guitar. i'd totally trust one of those on the street.

you wont be pumping subs, but your bass will be heard.
