need input for a doubler

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

I'm a electric bassist who also doubles on keyboards and I'm considering getting a new cabinet that will serve both very well. I tend to do club gigs so I don't need a big monster. Actually, I'm trying to downsize a bit from my Eden 210 XL.

I've been looking at Euphonic Audio. Almost made a leap for their 12 inch cab but lost it on ebay. Also, looking at the new 12 inch wizzy but it is rated around 200 watts and I'm using an eden 300 watt head (I already blew 2 10's in another cabinet running organ bass).

So, any recommendations? Is the EA stuff, particularly the wizzy, good for my use?

So ya know, I play a musicman sterling without effects and a Nord electro for keyboards. I play rock/blues mostly but some jazz & acoustic singer/songwriter as well. Really looking for a pure high fidelity tone as uncolored as possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. This is a great forum.

Well, downsizing when stuff is exploding around you, may not be your best answer.
Also a single twelve might have a thermal rating as high as 300 watts but I would be interested to hear what its maximum displacement limited rating might be at say 50 HZ.
Sounds like you had better have a chat with someone about a
Fearful 12/6 at least then you can get a bit back with the horrifyingly long cone excursion of the Eminence 3012lf.

i agree with Bassmec. Folk lately seem to be consumed with smaller rigs. We've had guys wishing to gig with a single 10. Then we've had guys complaining about how they're blowing their small cabinets. If you are playing a bass instrument through an amplifier you NEED the speakers to handle that and get it out to the audience. If you are trying to downsize from a 2x10 there really isn't much smaller. I use the 2x10 format but I'd never even try to gig with one, I always use a pair.

I play both bass guitar and keyboard synth through a GB Uber 212. In your shoes, I'd be looking at 2x12's, NOT something smaller.

OK, great. Thanks for the responses...

One point of clarification, I blew 2 out of 4 tens in an organ/drum duo jam session by running basically a sine wave bass through the cabinet. The cabinet was a 4 10 hartke transporter with the 300 watt eden head.

My normal bass rig is the eden head and the eden 2 10 xlt. This works great but, honestly, it's getting a bit heavy to lug around at around 70 pounds for the cab alone. For keys, I've been using a JBL 12 inch wedge monitor.

I'm looking to consolidate in one rig. Lighter would be best and something that could handle 300 watts in regular club gigs for both bass and keys. Maybe a 12 plus horn combination. For larger sessions, I typically run through the PA. Music style is mostly classic rock/blues and some country and jam band, so it's not like I need 8 tens for massive rock and roll.

So, any recommendations? Checked the AudioKinesis 112 Cab discussion but couldn't find anyone actually selling that cab (cursory look, though). The Euphonic Audio looks promising. Any others?

cheers.

If you're playing keys and bass the EA CXL112 is hard to beat if you can find one.
