I figured I'd follow up on this post...
I went ahead and bought a Carvin DCM2000L to replace the CA-9 in my rack. For the price and the weight (17lbs) it seemed like a good option.
I got to give it a test last night at the studio, and the Carvin sounded great. The input gain seemed weaker than the CA-9 so I had to make a couple adjustments to get the same tone. But overall the sound I'm looking for for onstage monitoring was there. In fact, it seemed more consistant over the full range of my basses and my drums. In my touring rig, use my amp more like a PA, where I mix 6 string bass, MIDI bass, upright, Roland SPD drum pads, theremin and my effects lines into one amp.
I'm going to drop the CA-9 in a smaller rack and pickup another Demeter tube preamp to use for smaller shows where I don't need all my other instruments. Since the CA-9 definitely has an agressive tone for my bass.
The weight loss on my rack is definitely worth the difference in tone though, and overall the tone is solid for my needs.
Here is my rack with the CA-9, so I just swapped the DCM2000L out.
