Question Need new bass head?? suggestions

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm a bass player but only now starting to buy my own set of tools. I have a 5 string jazz bass fender and I want to get a head for it and then eventually a cabinet. I mostly play at church but I want something powerfull enough to play outside if need be. Please if you have any suggestions on wat is good and wat might work best for me. I know little about it.

I don't own any GK's but they do have good reviews. Personally I have Ampeg's and Fenders's but they are more money. Go to one of the large Music Stores and try out some heads, this way you'll know what is out there and how much it will cost. Good luck

budget? tastes?

My current "big" amp is a Markbass LMII w/ an avatar 212 - a little over a grand $$ and can handle any stage I'll play, and sounds amazing! and isn't too big . . .

+1 on both the GK and the Avatar. I have both. I use a GK 1001RBII to play out, but I don't really need all that power. You can get away with a 300 watt amp if your band isn't extremely loud, and or if you have a good PA.

You can get Genz Benz shuttle 6.0's on the classifieds for pretty cheap (450-500 shipped). They also have a good DI on them for using until you have a cabinet. 600 watts at 4 ohms. Having the tube pre gives you some versatility. I know others have said it as well but I find they sound good with a variety of cabs. Which means you could go cheap on a cab and still have some great sounds until you could afford more.
