Need opinions on this amp

I used to play semi-professionally years ago. I stopped playing for a number of years, but a few guys that I used to play with and I are starting to jam again. Nothing too serious yet. I bought a '94 SWR Basic Black that I have discovered was somewhat neglected and I don't have the skills to mend it. The tone is amazing, but there's something off with it. I found in Craigslist someone selling a GK Backline 600 and a GK Backline 410. I can get the pair for $300. Is that a pretty good deal?

I'd say that's a pretty good deal. I've seen the backline cabs go for about $200 by themselves on CL, and the Backline 600 amp around $250 or so. My understanding is the Backline series are GK's 'budget' line and they're made overseas. Somewhere in Asia, I'm sure.

Should be easy to sell too if/when you're ready to upgrade.

How that compare to this?

Eden CXC-300 Bass Combo Amp 300 Watts!!!

I'm thinking that a budget Eden is going to be better than a budget GK.

The BL600 is the same poweramp as the 400RB IV with a different preamp. Newer BL600s are made at the G-K owned and operated plant in China so they sell at entry level pricing (instead of premium prices like many companies that out-source the builds).
The BL speaker cabs I personally am not a big fan of.

To my ear Eden and Gallien Krueger have very different sounds. It's a matter of personal preference.

I prefer the Eden personally.

I prefer the Galliens but if we all liked the same sound there would be only one manufacturer That is why it is always said "TRY BEFORE YOU BUY" whenever remotely possible

Thanks for the opinions. The guy selling the Eden emailed and discovered it has a blown speaker. He's going to knock some money off, but I opted to pass on it. My SWR had some easily fixed problems that masked other problems. Cosmetic issues are one thing, but a blown speaker is another. If it were a vintage Ampeg I'd be willing to fix it, but not this.
