Hey folks, I'm looking for a compact 112, or a 210 that can cover most of my gig requirements as a stand-alone, and come in under 35lbs. I have an acoustic gig that just about anything will do the job, and virtually all my rock band gigs have PA support. Our stage volume can be fairly loud, so this will have to pack some punch. budget is under 400 bucks. Used is OK.
I currently run a 112, and a 210 together, and am really (too) loud for the rock gigs, so I'm hopeful one configuration, or the other will do it, and hopefully in a lighter package. I have a back injury, and my current cabs are becoming cumbersome..
I appreciate your opinions..
thanks! |

| | | | The Avatar Neo cabs could be good. Very affordable, and you can get them as either 8 ohm or 4 ohm. I would go with a 112 instead of a 210, at 4 ohms so that you're getting the maximum wattage out of your amp. |

| | LICENSED TO KILL - any song I play! | | | | | Did you mean the Powerhouse line from Mesa-Boogie? I bought a Powerhouse (made by Eminence) 12" Neomag 4ohm Speaker and put it in a combo of mine, GREAT SPEAKER!

| | | | A used Mesa Scout 112 cab is about 33 pounds and has puts out an incredible amount of deep bass and quality tone. They pop up used here and there or a new one could me ordered. One of the easiest cabs to carry with one hand and the design is really well executed.

The MB210e, and / or the MB212e seem promising, but I don't think very many are out in circulation yet being so new... |

If you are looking for 1x12s, the Genz-Benz NeoX 112 is very well-reviewed. It's a little out of your price range new, but if you see a used one, grab it. I am using the Epifani PS112 and I love it. They is a little over your weight range at 37 lbs., but they are VERY easy to handle and they are $400 brand new. BIG lows from that cab, handles the low B from my Cirrus with ease and reasonably loud for a small box. Those are the two that I would personally recommend, but there are lots of other nice cabs too.

The UL112 uses a neodymium driver while the PS112 uses a traditional ceramic driver. I can say that everything i've read about the PS112 has been absolutely consistent my own experiences, so i have no reason not to trust the extensive reviews here regarding the UL112.
If you prefer a "flat", more modern sounding cabinet, go for the UL112. If you prefer a low-mid bump, especially for fingerstyle playing or a more vintage slap tone, the PS112 is probably a better choice. Also, the weight difference between the two is only 5-7 lbs. While both boxes are slightly bigger than a lot of other 1x12s, the PS112 is very easy to move around and the UL112 would be a little easier still.
