Cheapest method is a shelf made by Middle Atlantic, available from any big retailer of music gear. Can sometimes be found for like $40.

Find a machine shop in your area, show them the pic from the manufacturer and your actual unit. See if they can do it for less (probably can).

For $20 I'd rather use the proper thing!

Me too, but for some people $20 is a big difference.

Yeah, but for $20, the same shelf can be used to rack another 1/2 rack piece of gear - sometimes works out much better.

Depending how heavy is it, couldn't you just go to a hardware store and get a piece if flat bar ali. Bend it in a clamp, then cut it with a hacksaw and drill some holes. Maybe 5 bucks and hour or two work with buy time
