Need to sell an amp, which one should I sell?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi. I am a supporting member, so I know I can ask this question. I need to sell one of my tube amps, one is a Mesa 400+ the other is a Trace Elliot Hexa-Valve. Both amps give me the power and tone I need. I have had the Mesa for quite a while, so keeping it would be more for nostalgic reasons, the Trace is Sooo rare though and it has a sextet of GE 6550's to boot. I know, I know, sucks to be me, with that said, it's still a tough decision If you were in my shoes, what would you do?

i'd get a second job for a while

but seriously, sell the one you don't like as much, and be honest with yourself.

My " second job " is playing Mr Mom with my 13month old when my wife is at work, the pay stinks, but it's VERY rewarding I guess I could always find Mesa 400+'s, but the Hexas' come up soo rarely for sale. From what I have been told by another member, there are only about a dozen or so in the US. I guess I'll take my time, do what my gut tells me

have you considered putting the kid up for adoption? i understand if you do it through the black market, there's pretty big money to be had.

I like the Mesa personally, but if you got rid of it, you could always get another if you wanted one. There's probably a bunch in the classifieds right now.

Do NOT do what the couple did last week (end June 2010) in a Wal-Mart parking lot. A 38-year old dad and 20-year old mom tried to sell their 6-month old son for $25.00 to two women (total strangers).

The women called the cops.

I have four amps, and am keeping them all until space becomes critical.

Nothing is worth more than your kids, I would sell all of it for them if I had to And it figures something like that would happen at a Wal-Mart

If they had a "Roll Back" sign they may have gotten away with it? Just for the record kids are to important. I'm trying to live long enough to be a problem for mine

Yeah, or maybe they got caught because they were trying to use the K-Mart " Blue Light Special " instead of a " Roll Back Sign "

This, but bear in mind the difficulty of obtaining another. I always consider this when thinking of selling something. To buy another 400+, you'd need to come up with a good chunk of money, which may be tough to do in the future. To get another Hexa, you'd need a good chunk of money, AND a lot of luck.

Keep the Hexa-Valve if it's rare. I bet it sounds GREAT, plus it could be worth even more down the road. That seems to be something you should hold on to.

Decide which one you really want to play your bass through, that will ultimately make you happier than worrying about which one is worth more. I once sold everything but my Boogie D180, and looking back it was a good choice. The babysitting will ultimately give you much more satisfaction than having two amps. I currently get to babysit my grandsons, and it's more fun than playing bass. I told them they were lucky JimmyM wasn't their Grandpa.
