If it's connected between the bass and the amp the amp will amplify the signal from the pedal.

I'd spend some time with the head and play with the settings ... I have a VB-2 and the setting I use most offen is bass & treble set at 12-1 o'clock, mid around 1-2 o'clock, presence around 11-1 o'clock ... mid switch can be 600 or 800 ... I set the master volume to about 3 o'clock and use the pre-amp gain as the volume control ...that what sounds good to me ...the settings will change somewhat due to room acoustics ..... do what Jimmy said and you'll be doing good !!!

No you're not cheating yourself, the "tube sound" will always be there. I have a VB2 also and I use a modified English Muff'n for my overdrive but I still get the VB2 "sound". The best thing you can do is just try it out and see if you like it; you're not going to hurt anything. Have fun experimenting!

PS - If you're wondering, I don't like switching between the clean and dirty channels on the VB2 due to the obvious difference in volume; which is my only bitch with the VB2.

If you have an active bass plug it into the low gain input. You'll get a much better sound. I had to borrow my guitarists Ibanez bass, it has passive PUs, and I was surprised at the loss of tone when I had it plugged into low gain input but it sounded great when I put it into the high gain input. I don't think it would damage anything to have your active bass plugged into the high gain input but I bet you'll get a better tone if you plug it into the low gain input.

and for a different opinion...it can't hurt to try it in the low gain active input, but i've never liked them. i plug any bass i play into the high gain passive input every time. and no, it won't damage anything to use it with an active bass. even a tube amp. but try both and make up your own mind.

Hmm, I don't know if I've ever tried to plug my Cirrus into the high gain input. I think I have something to play with tomorrow.
