Need some Amp advice ...

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm not a big amp guy so I'm reaching out to folks on the forum.

I recently joined a group and I need an amp for the practice space. It's not a big space but we have a full drum kit, a full keyboard setup, a guitarist and 4 vocalists.

I've been bringing my 30-watt Fender practice and it's not getting the job done. I have a 200 watt Yorkville combo that is for gigs that I don't feel like lugging back and forth.

What I need is a cheap combo that can take up permanent residence in the practice space. It doesn't have to be pretty or even feature-rich -- it's just got to be loud enough to get the job done. (And CHEAP)

I ran across a used Crate BT-100 that I think will fit the bill. Its being sold at a reputable local store and I can get it for $150.

Any reason I shouldn't do this?

Depending on the room, and the volume of the band overall, your best friend will be speakers. If the Crate combo is capable of adding an ext cab, you should do fine, but if it's not loud enough, you need more speakers.

^ looks like me an rickenboogie are storming TB today. Yikes..

If I were you, I would just get a cheap GK halfstack. For the price of a decent sounding used combo, you can get a GK backline head w/ a goldline 4x10. Then in the future, use the GK as a backup or just sell them for the same price you picked em up for. Guaranteed to sound louder than most combos you will come accross and again, they can be had for SUPER cheap on your local craigslist, ebay etc.
