Need some ideas/tips

Advanced apologies for the long post

My current rig sounds great, but I feel it lacks "rumble". It can get bassy, but I just don't feel the impact of the notes below G in drop D tuning. I mainly play Jazz style basses, but I notice it with my P basses as well. Band is a 4 piece with a loud drummer, one 100w head/4x12 lead/rhythm guitar, and one 50w/2x12 rhythm guitar. Rehearsal space is small, we are loud.

I have a couple ideas/theories:
1: Less perceived "push" from a rear ported cab(Aggie DB412)? The back is about 6-8" from the wall, should be enough room, right?

2: I'm reaching the limits of my amplifier(Markbass SD800 and RBI). With or without the RBI, running everything flat, boosting bass on either the RBI or amp, increasing the master volume anywhere past 12 o'clock isn't really adding anything.

I'm going for tones like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4ZFN3D4-8s at the 1:00 mark, or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbUGbBNZ3nk. Warm a full, but still some mid range grind.

My gut is telling me to ditch the Markbass/RBI and get an SVT, maybe some 15's. Any thoughts, tips or suggestions? I'm all for trying stuff with my rig!

What gauge is your E string?
When I threw a hipshot on my G and L and dropped to D, I had the same problem until I switched from a 100 to a 105.
In fact I think I may even go to a 107.

Edit: I also adjusted my pickups. Just a thought.

wow, you must really be loud to make that rig not work! it's all about frequency slotting and controlling your volume. every instrument has to find its place in the mix, and you all can't just turn way up in a small room and expect it to sound good. sounds to me like everyone needs to play more for each other and less for themselves, quite honestly. either that or buy a second rig that size and use both.

BassNGuns, I have 105's on all or most of my instruments. I am going to change strings soon, and move to a 110 E string. I did have my Lakland setup recently, and though it seems more even volume wise string-to-string, the

And yes Jimmy, its loud. I would get another DB412 if I had the money and room! I am going to try repositioning my cab, since it's aiming at the kick drum. I'll see what I can do EQ-wise for a dryer tone, versus big and full since there is so much kick in the room.

I agree with you on this. They do listen, but it usually falls back on our drummer beating the piss out of his drums.
