Need something louder..

Okay so my band has been writing some originals and we almost ready to start getting out there and start gigging. At the moment im just using a Fender rumble 75 for practice. Im in a metalcore band so im gonna need something fairly loud to replace my rumble.

I was thinking the Ashdown MAG C210 combo and then adding a extension cab (1x15) seeing it the best deal at my local music store and im not that high on funds.

So do you guys think this amp is good and would be loud enough and even be able to handle my B string? If not any suggestions on something else i could be looking at?

I've used the MAG C210 with a 5 string at high volumes and not had any problems, but only for recording, not for gigging.

Do any of the places you intend to play use mics / DI's for the amps? Or is it just live sound? If they do mic amps or use DI, then it the combo on its own would probably be sufficient

Well from what iv heard from friends who have played where we plan on planing is that most places do but some don't, so i think the extension would be a good idea just in case

A matching 210 ext cab would be better, but the 210/15 is not a bad rig at all.

Just a thought.. What about getting an Ampeg 4x10 HLF I've heard it can carry the lows extremely well. Try looking into it.. Im in the process of getting one

I can vouch for the AMpeg 410HLF having great low end

I got to play through one on Tuesday night and it had a really, really 'kick in the chest' low end

Great low end, but you have to have the amp to push the low end out. Lower you go, more watts you need.
I always advise folks looking fro a cheap loud amp to grab a GK400RB or 800RB. Especially the older ones with the "plain" faceplates. I find those have more durable switches.
You can often find these heads for $200-300 on craigslist.
Pair that with a couple 2x10, or a couple 15" cabs. The 800RB can actually drive 3 8ohm cabs. (4ohms on the low amp, 8 ohms on the high amp).

There are also some nice 2x12 cabs out there these days.

A cab that efficiently produces low end like the 4x10hlf would need "less" watts, not more.

I also owned an ampeg 410hlf with a classic SVT head. (not sure what the exact model was) and for practice/rehearsals. the amp/cab was mediocre at best (volume-wise). and in the live settings i played, it was completly lost. i would advise against the ampeg, especially in a metal band as they tend to be a bit, if not a lot louder. though they sound great (amazing tone) and LOTS of people swear by em. they arent great for live settings IME/IMO.
