| | | | Need suggestion: what speakers go well with a Sunn Coliseum head

Hi all. I am a new member to the forum. Recently I blew out the two original speakers to my Sunn 215SH cab. I play out of a Coliseum Bass head. The original speakers were two 80 watt 8 ohm speakers that I am pretty sure are as old as the cab (probably close to 40 years old) and I want something more powerful than that (I play in a few pretty loud bands).
Does anyone have any suggestions? I was looking at the Eminence Kappa 15A, Delta 15LFA, or the Kappa Pro and Delta Pro.
I like a low bass sound but want to be able to come through clearly as well.
Also, I always play through a distortion pedal if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance. |

| | Hey, what does this knob do? | | Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: New Hampshire | | | Hmm... The 215SH was a folded horn, correct? If so, that cab may not be what you want for clarity and distortion and a "low bass sound." (My own experience with Sunn folded horns in the mid-to-late 1970s is that they were heavy in the lower mids, present in the upper bass, and absent in the lower bass without tons of EQ. And as for highs, forget about it.)
It would also be good to know what size rooms you play in WITHOUT mains support. |

Your requirements don't really line up with a folded-horn cab, especially one with this sort of "voicing," but that's just one man's opinion. I suppose you COULD make it work, but I don't think what you want to use it for would really line up with what it was intended to do. Have you thought of selling it empty and getting a reflex cab instead? |

What a pig to haul though.

maybe an eminance alpha-15a, beta-15a, or a legend cb15 (the beta has a better freq range on paper, but I think the alpha will sound best)
maybe a celestion green label BL15-300X
