Need Suggestions: Mesa M6 Related

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

I recently tried a Mesa M6 at the GC in Knoxville and was absolutely blown away by it. It had a really nice, warm, and dark tone, but it also remained very punchy and articulate (the StingRay I tried it with sounded God-like!). I also found the EQ to be very versatile, while remaining simple and user-friendly.

Anyways, I've been trying to snag one in the classifieds for a while now and have had little success. As such, I'm curious if there are other amps out there with similar tonal characteristics to the M6 that might be worth checking out.

Thanks!

Well that would be the obvious choice

I have to admit how amazed I was by the tone of the M6. They had a M3 in store too, but I was less impressed with that one. It seemed to lack the balls that the M6 had. I also really missed the mid voicing control.

But anyways, I'm guessing I'm looking for something of equal or lesser value to the M6

In all seriousness, I suspect that a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 will be in the same ballpark. To my ear, my GBE 1200 and Carbines (have owned, recorded, and gigged both the M6 and M9) ar edifferent flavors of the same tonal goal, with the Mesa having a bigger low end and smoother mids; the Shuttle 9.0 has a similar sound as compared to the 1200. Doesn't have the same wallop that the Carbines have, but it's not lacking by any means... more of a good/very good situation.

I had a M9 that kept crapping out on me. I bought a GK MB Fusion outta of desperation. I'm very happy with it. In the same league tone wise, heck of alot lighter, and will get dirty if you want it to. I had a few class D amps before and didn't like them much at all. The GK is a winner in my book.

I too found that the GKMB500 was in the same voicing universe as the M6.... big down low, super sizzly and bright up top. I would assume the MBFusion would be closer yet.

I might be running up to GC today so I'll give the MKMB500 a look.

Does anyone have any opinions on the larger GK Fusion 550 or 2001RB? I did a search and surprisingly found almost nothing on both those heads.

be patient. Buying new is a rip. They will appear used, and the one thing you have is time.
