Need TBer on adding a cab

Sign in to disble this ad
Im currently using an Ampeg 4x10 classic series cab powered by a sansamp rbi and a carvin power amp that puts out 700 watts at 8 ohm. I love the sound, and rarely need more power. But it would be nice to have a little more low end ooomph for outdoor gigs. While adding the 1x15 ampeg cab would be the easiest solution, it is a bit on the heavy side.
I'm a little tight for cash these days, so can anyone suggest a 1x15 at a reasonable price that might do the job.

wish i could say the same. i've had many a 115e supplied with a 410he and i hate it. can't hear the 115 much at all, and what little i could hear it acted destructively, so i always unplug the 115. if you want a little more low end oomph, another 410he would be a big help, but then it will sound more like a sealed 810e, which may or may not be what you'll hoping to accomplish. a ported 410 may be to your liking, though. me, i like the 410he

Thanks, jimmy. I love the sound of the 410 svt, and would add another to the rig in a second. But I'm still hauling all my own gear so the weight and size is an issue. I wish ampeg still made that 2x10 svt, cab. I think that would be the ticket but i haven't been able to find any on CL or in local shops. I'll keep looking, tough.

I'm mostly with Jimmy on this - I've used 410s with a 115 and it doesn't seem a great combination to me. The 115 doesn't have enough cone area (compared to 4 tens) to add much but it's still using half your power, if the two cabs are the same impedance. I like a 115 with a 210 though (not too much difference in terms of cone area - the 115 may be about 12% more or so than the 2 tens, depending on driver design). With a 410 I'd want two 15s.

But then again, some people seem very happy with their 410/115 setup. If it works for them, then good luck to them.
