Nemesis NA650 vs Shuttle 6.0

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi TB,
I'm in a bit of a quandary here. I'm currently using the Nemesis NA650 as my main gigging amp. It's rack mounted with a power unit and tuner and connected to one or two 410 cabs depending on the venue.
I got it for a great price. It sounds great. More power than I'll ever need. The only thing is it's so darn heavy.
I'm thinking of trying a Shuttle 6.0.
I've yet to hear anything negative about the Shuttle as far as dependability, so I really won't bother questioning it. What I want to know is how does the tone compare to the Nemesis line?

FWIW I play in a cover band, mostly classic rock.
Thanks!
Dave

Interesting. I know the NA650 is reputed to be one of those "secret bargain" kind of heads I'm curious to see how people think it stacks up against the Shuttle.

I have never owned a NA650.

But I have a Shuttle 6.0 right now and had a 2008 RS210 combo before that. I could never get rid of a very nasally sound in the combo that is entirely gone in my Shuttle 6.0 and Aguilar GS112. The really fantastic thing is being able to set the tube gain, then having a separate knob for how much of that level is going to the power amp.

I'm VERY glad I got rid of my Nemesis. But I never had a NA650.

The NA650 is a nice amp, but does weigh a ton.

If your cabs are 4ohm, I would recommend the Shuttle Max 12.... same size as your NA650, but a fraction of the weight. You could use your rack, and drop about 30 pounds and have more power and more EQ power.

If your cabs are 8ohms, then the Shuttle 9 might float your boat... lots of power at 8ohms for driving a single 8 ohm 410, and more inherent low end and balls than the Shuttle 6.

The Shuttle 6 will sound brighter, a bit thinner down low, and a bit grindier than your NA.
