Technical salespeople are annoying when they volunteer incorrect or misleading info. If you don't understand something, please don't try to pass along your misunderstanding to others. Just say something like, "I'm not sure about that, but we can try to find out if you're interested!"
I've noticed that the correct knowledge vacuum is particularly strong in electronics and computer stores, where no one wants to admit that they don't know something, so they seem perfectly happy to feed you lines of B.S. wholesale. Although Guitar Center ranks up there too.
It obviously depends on the individual salesperson, but it seems like there is a culture of this kind of behavior out there... |

He mentioned something that sounded like "lice-ricey". I wondered what he was talking about so I got the bottle and read the ingredients. It was licorice. I walked out at that point.

I've always said the first and I could have sworn I heard a rep for Ric say that the first pronunciation is the correct one. Either way, the neodymium mispronounces are pretty funny.
**EDIT - IIRC, it was a Rep...not sure if that was the exact position but I know he was an employee in some capacity

Also, is it supposed to be moe-lib-den-um?
Helps to have a native language where every letter has exactly one pronunciation and each sound has only one letter...

. | Ha! Exactly right. I'm back in school at 41 with a full load and two young kids. If it weren't for coffee I wouldn't be able to pull my pants up. And spell check usually saves me from myself. But both being real words it didn't catch it this time.

As "Neodym", the German version is "Molybden" ...
Spelled "Mo-lüb-dään".
The "dään" sounds like the "Dan" in "Dan Aykroyd" (long "a").
Also have to deal with "piezo cooling stages" every week ...
The "Pi" sounds like "3.1415" or the "pee - p*ss" ...
The "ez" makes a "silent t".
You could write it "pee-at-so" |

German Nazi but also in the
Italian paparazzo or piza ...
I think it also depends on local pronunciation ...
You can say
"pee-at-so"
(or more american): "pi-add-though" ...
In Germany the first person plural of "to have" (we have) is "wir haben". This "haben" can be spelled "harben", "hun", "hen", "hom", "hummer" +++ |
