Neutrik Speakon in Parallel

Sign in to disble this ad
Good day!

Since short I'm a proud owner of an Ampeg SVT III Pro with the 210 Classic and 115 Classic cabinet.

I would like to get a total impedance of 4 Ohm (both cabs are 8) so I can reach my peak performance (450 watts).
I use a Neutrik Speakon cable, but there is only one output from the amp, and the cabs both got 2 of them.

I wired it this way:

Amp out ---> cable to 210Cabinet (left in/output) ---> other cable from 210 Cabinet (right in/output) -----> going to 115 cabinet (left in/output)

Is this the right way to wire a Parallel with Speakon Jacks, so I will reach a total impedance of 4 Ohm and a total of 450 Watts?

Then I have another question:
My amp can reach 450 Watts, my cabinets are rated 200 and 250 watts which is a total of 450 watts so I can handle my full output.

Is this calculation right, or can't you sum up parallel speaker wattage?

I hope you can help me! Thanks in advance!

Assuming the info you gave is correct (the ohm ratings of the cabs); YES, you wired them correctly and you are presenting a 4-ohm load to the amp.

Not sure what you're asking about "handling full output" but don't worry about blowing your speakers by feeding them the exact wattage they are rated for or even a little more than that. A 2x10 cab and a 1x15 cab will both react a little differently to the amp. I.E. you can't really say that each cabinet will get exactly 225 watts...it just doesn't work that way. But don't worry; your setup will be just fine and pretty loud to boot.

No. Each 8Ω load will receive half of the amps power. Thus 225W each at maximum. As long as you listen for any signs of distress and turn down if you do you should be fine.

BassmanPaul: Are you saying that he did not wire them correctly?

No, they're wired correctly, he's just saying that each cab gets half the amps juice. Sorry BPaul, couldn't resist.
