New Acme pic...

Sign in to disble this ad
Here's a link to a picture of the new Acme neo 1x12 without the tweeter, the Flatwound, that I expect to go up on the Acmebass web site at any time now.

http://webmail.aol.com/31793-112/aol...wMail&partId=4

I believe the Series III Low B-1, Low B-2 and Low B-4 are now also available with the Duratex finish and the new corner protectors, instead of the old rat fur.

Sorry about that. Here's a thumbnail of the new Flatwound:

Lookin' good! One recommendation for Andy. He should make sure that top handle is recessed enough so that a micro head can be placed on top of the amp. There is probably a recessed type 'all in one' handle with a similar cutout to what he is using.

It's a real hassle when you can't set a head on top of a cab IMO.

Agreed.

I already mentioned it to Andy. He said he compromised on the lowest profile handle that he thought was still quiet and rugged enough for the job. My heads all have feet on the bottom which permit them to just clear handle and sit level.

Cool. Also, that rubber handle will work OK with a small head sitting on top of it, even if it does cause the head to sit at an angle. Even with rubber feet, there is very little clearance on the bottom of most of these heads.

Minor deal... looks nice!

Andy has the picture of the B1 up on the Acmebass website. Also some interesting comments about the rounded port. Click on the "Latest News" link at the top.

I ordered a Duratexed B1 a couple of weeks ago - waiting, waiting, waiting...

Lookin' real sharp. I'm glad that Andy has finally gotten on the "hard finish & stacking corners" bandwagon...

He's always had stacking corners. At least all my cabinets are so equipped.

Wow. Those look great. +1 on the recessed handle.

Picking the name "Flatwound" mystifies me. Flats and rounds is a polarizing topic among bass players; why feed into that?

Maybe the Roundwound will have a mid/tweet? Only Andy knows for sure.

As always, Andy looks to have done some amazingly good quality engineering in designing those cabs Looking forward to getting one (With the Coaxial tweeter!)

Is it safe to assume that the Flatwound and B1 will stack together? It looks like the Flatwound would be a great "sub" cabinet for the B1.

Why would you want a more sensitive cabinet with a far different tone profile as a "sub cabinet"? Terrible idea.

They'll stack because Andy is using the Low B-2 cabinet dimensions for the Flatwound (both are 15.75" wide).

Do NOT assume the Flatwound is merely a sub, however. Even without the tweeter insert (not yet available), I think some will find the new neo driver to deliver stronger mids than the 3-way Low B series. I do.

Personally, if the Flatwound comes out at $499 and the Low B-1 is $450 ($430 + $20 for Duratex), I'd pop for the additional $49 and get a second Flatwound. In fact, I currently plan to get a pair of Flatwounds.

Any ballpark for what the coax 1x12 will run?

Andy hasn't said anything about that to me. He might still be working out the final pricing (to him) and other details with his own suppliers of the coax cone components.

Fair enough, but I was thinking about mid dispersion on tight stages and 4 ohm loading for compact heads as reasons to stack the B1 on the Flatwound, not necessarily what would be going out into the room. My experience with 2x112 stacks is that they are hard to hear if you have to stand close to them.

Two B1's would be better in that case.
