I sucked up my whining about GC, and went to go look at used gear. I found this sitting in a corner, for $199, and plugged a Geddy Lee Jazz into it.(after I acquire more money, I'm going back for that bass ) I was, and still are, impressed with this things performance. I couldn't believe this wall of sound comes from a single 10. Attachment 172806It is incredibly loud. The same store also has a GK backline 210 combo for $299, so that might be next. Anyway, here it is!

| | Hey, what does this knob do? | | Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: New Hampshire | | | What design is that cab, and what's the extra space used for? It almost looks like a scoop bin, but that wouldn't make sense at that price point (not to mention design-wise).
Or is it just a big unvented box? |

Or is it just a big unvented box? | If this is a cabinet design question, I'm afraid I don't know anything. This is what I know about it.
It's a sealed cab 1x10, the space is just wood. And I'm planning on adding another 10, or replacing the other one and then adding a different 10 to keep the impedance at 4 ohms. Or I could just buy a 410.

The 1x10 cab is shaped to max the sound of the driver, and if you add another 10 to the cab then you'll mess it up methinks.
Or are you thinking of adding another 10-cab to it somehow?
They do sound nice and they are pretty punchy. I saw a guy buy two for himself - one for work and another for bedroom playing. I'm not too sure of gigging with one though.
This is exactly the cab I'd get if I had to play my AEB at an unplugged gig though. It's relatively small and unobtrusive and everyone knows an AEB needs some help to hold it's own against a couple of un-amp'd guitars.
It's either that or get a stand-up double and then have to carry that all over the place.
But I wouldn't modify that cab at all. It works as it is for what it is. Quote:

I believe that the "260" is a GC take on the old Acoustic Control Corporation model 360/361. Early 70s.
Click on the link below and check out the old 360....
A 1x18 driver with the amp in the cab (folded) and the pre on top.
Again, I may be way off base here, but I think that was their goal....

The literature says it's a 'custom ported' enclosure, which implies that it's NOT sealed.
I'd really love to know what that cabinet looks like in cross-section! That's an awful lot of deep bass from just one 10" driver. I'd almost bet that it's some kind of trick slot-port that feeds into a flared mouth at the bottom...something like the old MusicMan 115RH.
Anybody here know anything about that cab design? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
