New amp after 15 years...Gallien Kruger!

Well, after playing the same Carvin rig for 15+ years, I decided it was time to upgrade. The Carvin has served me well, but the last few gigs, the EQ has been acting funny and it feels like it has lost its ooomph. I was starting to get that feeling like I might take it to a gig and flip the power switch and....uh-oh. It has been a great amp - no regrets.

After watching Norm Stockton's tours of the GK factory, and based on many comments on TalkBass, I picked up my new rig last weekend.

Wow! My basses still have their character, but the sound is just so alive! I'd always figured if the amp had enough power, leave it flat and let the bass set the tone. The GK does, that, but it just feels so 'present'....hard to describe!

So it is the 700 RBII and Neo 4x10 cab. They will make their debut this Saturday night in Dallas. Anyway, thanks for all of the advice here! Out with the old, in with the new!

Sweet rig, congrats, and welcome to the wonderful world of GK. Just got the original 700RB/112 combo, and I'm so in love with it!

Thanks! I can't wait to gig with it.

Question - with the cooling fan on top, have you had any problems with the head inside a rack case? Or is it best to allot a rack space above the amp to give it a pocket of circulation?

Many people say that most racks have enough clearance for ventilation.

One thing I considered doing (using a 2u Gator rack) would be to drill some small vent holes in the top of the rack above the fan area. Or if using larger holes, glue a small section of screen to the inside of the rack case to keep stuff from falling in.
