New Amp Day! Not really...

Sign in to disble this ad
...but I am on the serious hunt.

In everyone's humble opinion (taking into consideration the: 'go out and test-drive' replies) if YOU had the option, which would you choose.

This is definitely about opinion and personal choice, but not a bash or 'mine is better than yours'.

I'll provide a little bit of details to help with a decision (and yes, I have narrowed my choices down to these and wouldn't mind a few ideas bounced around. I've been combing the site all day too.).

Without spending a wad:
YouTube - ‪Sonny Landreth - Broken Hearted Road LIVE (Clip)‬‏

Well, that explains it all - THAT is what I hear in my head (and on CD ).

Are these choices way off?

I want to change my sig a bit (but keep the bass).

IF I HAD TO CHOOSE: The GK.

I'd want more info, however. That GK seems to go for ~$500 used... $500 won't buy you much head new... Used GB Shuttle 6?

Oh - and Sonny IS THE MAN. Love him - particularly live.

But that bass tone isn't particularly special - sounds like a P-bass with tone rolled back through a big amp. Sounds *good* but not particularly difficult to achieve.

My Carvin BX500 is just way too clean, even pushed with a BDDI or VT Bass pedal.
One can get that throaty growl with the 700RB ii at lower volumes too?

Looking to trade this BX500 plus 210 (combo) in on something with low-end growl at most volumes (not grit or grind, mind you). Looking for at under $1000.
I'm pushing the BX500 through a Carvin BRX 10.4 NEO, but it's just too clean, not enough 'gurgle'.

Any suggestions?
Peavey VB-2?
PF-500?
700RB-II?
Keep amp and use a special pedal (VT Bass is a bit too grindy/fuzzy)?
Pedal and Hartke LH500?
TC Classic 450?
Trick someone into selling me a Fender TB-600 on the cheap?

Having others decide what you like never works out.

If you like the VT bass, consider a Peavey IPR poweramp with it instead of a head. It's way more flexible, and has a high input sensitivity that's good for low output pre's.

For splitting the signal, I jump rather than split. Just go from one place to the next.

Got the GK, love it.
VT will be in classifieds soon.
The 700RB II is awesome alone, add the BDDI for added warmth.
The Carvin BRX 10.4NEO carries the lows real nice
Now to find the optimum bass.
Maybe a nice Sterling HH?
