Ok, here's the story.

1) I currently have a Hartke LH1000 and Hartke 4.5 cabinet (400 watts @ 8 ohms, 100lbs.)

2) I play in a hard rock cover band, battling 2 guitars, drums and vocals. Small to medium venues. I normally go direct to front of house.

3) I need to go lighter, the cab is first on my list, because of money and size (won't fit in a Honda Civic)

I've looked at the Hartke Hydrive 1x12 and GK Neo 1x15.

Do i have too much power in this head for either of these cabs? Will I blow the speakers?

Due to limited finance options, i can't replace the whole rig.

Anyone have any other suggestions to go light, loud and limited budget?

Head watts don't have to match cab watts. But you need to be able to hear your speaker properly so you can listen for clues that you may be near the limits of its ability.

Luckily, as you raise volume, cabs start to sound ugly a good while before they actually start to melt down.

So:
- Point the drivers at your ear,
- stay some ways from guitar amps and possessed drummers,
- stop turning up when you hear signs of driver fatigue,
and you should be good to go.

I'd consider a fEarful, but the drivers are hard to get now.

Coincidentally, one of them will be en route to me from Robbie at Art Of Noise in about a week!
