New Amp - Problem: Strange Hiss On Certain Notes

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello TB'ers

I got me a used Amp (hardly used). Yorkville Bassmaster xm200.

The amp works great otherwise, but I noticed that when I play a high F, there is a strange hissing/buzzing sound comming from somewhere in the front of the amp.

I am quite sure it is a mechanical hiss, it's there regardless of settings, even with no treble on the preamp, and my tone rolled off on the bass.

It's most pronounced on high F's, but also occurs a bit on high G's and one or two notes in the vincinity. When I slide around from F to E, it stops instantly.

I have already checked all screws I could reach from the outside, they are tight. It doesn't seem to come from the tweeter either. The grill is tight too, and dampening it won't change aynthing about the hiss.

Any thoughts?
