Question New Amp reccomendations?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm in the market for a new amp. Ive been running this Mesa M6 i bought a little over a year ago, and its in the shop for the third time. Meanwhile im stuck with my old hartke back up head. Theres so many new amps out there i dont even know where to start. Does anyone have any good general reccomendations? i was thinking ampeg but they moved to China, so thats kind of iffy and aguilar seems like alot of hype for what you get. I may be wrong about that, but theres no where here to play one and no one has told me any different.

Aguliar is definately not hype. I use a DB 750 head, 680 pre, DB 412 cab and 2 DB 112 cabs. Great gear.

Aguilar would be a great way to go.

Right now I'm very happy with my Peavey (yes, Peavey) VB-2 -> Genz Benz Uber 212 rig. If I had the coin, I'd add a second Uber 212 just for the sake of ridiuclous overkill.

I also rather enjoyed the Alembic F-1X -> QSC -> Bag End setup I played for a while.

I guess it all boils down to what you're looking for.

What type of tone are you trying for? What cab(s) are you using?

Aguilar is not hype, it's great-sounding, solidly-built, dependable gear backed up by great customer service. I don't know what you're looking for, but those things mean a lot to me. That said, Aguilar ain't "it" for everyone.

This Amp would probably just be my main work horse. I play generally 3 nights a week in different genres from blues to southern rock to modern and prog. i just want to know what all i can trust since it seems like alot of companies are going to crap lately

I really just like the low thump and classic pure bass sound. I run a Mills Acoustics 6x10 and a 1x15 not together most of the time, but ive been really happy with the sound quality of those cabs and the way it sits in the mix live. I loved the way that mesa m6 sounded, but it hardly ever worked and that does not do me any good. I'm interested in the Mesa 400 but once again dependability comes into question.

Money is not a factor. But i am leaning toward the more common amps since they seem to be working so well for everyone else. But realistically i would go over 3,000. I need a good amp, not another kid.

$ 3,000.00 +

Well that should open a few doors ...

I have beat the crap out of my GK700RB for over 8 years now and I have never had one problem. Sit's nicely on top of a EV 410 Cab. I'm gonna beat it up some more tomorrow night and then again all weekend.

Back when the GK Forum was up and running I remember other guys complaining about glitches, so it seems that when manufacturing these high powered bad boys small things get overlooked and later down the road they become problematic for the user. If you really like the MESA sound and you hate to part w/ that aspect. Then ...

Don't they have a 3-5 year transferrable warranty ???
You said it's only 1 year old ?
Complain to the top and get them to trade for a brand new one or comparable. This is an outrage !!!

Loads of peeps who love their Mesa Amps and you want to be one of them ... Make them see it your way !!!

Yeah i called mesa several times and left several voicemails with several different people and nothing really came out of it. but even though it had a 5 year warranty i just gave up bothering them with it and took it to my local tech. its working now, but god knows its only a matter of time at this point. but i think im just going to go with the aguilar db750. people swear by it and i liked the audio clips ive heard. plus its the basically the power rating im looking for. Thanks for the help guys and ill update yall when i get my new head in.

I've always gotten a call back from Mesa in short order, are you sure your messages were clear? Maybe Mesa has changed since I last talked to them.
