New AMP search

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,

I just started playing in a band again after a long break. I would like to get a new amp from what I have.
Have a lot of questions now that I have been out of the loop for a while.
I currently have an Ampeg SVT350H 350W classic series head along with an 1810 Peavy cabinet. (1) 18" and (2) 10" speakers.
The amp still works, but I got a taste of a newer GK amp and loved it. Plus the 18" speaker is just too boomy now and doesn't give the crispness that I heard from the GK.
My question is what is the best and cost wise way to go.
1. Keep what I have an buy a new GK 4X10 amp? Would that head power them all?
2. Get a 2X12 GK cab and a 4X10 GK cab and still use the Ampeg head?
3. Just go for a new set up with new GK head and cabs? What would the best set up be for just clubbing.

I am really moving forward on the GK since it's based in the states and Ampeg I heard sinced moved to Korea. The service is not done as well as before I'm told.

Any suggestions on which way to go or is GK the answer?

Thanks.....

MM

i vote 1 for most cost effective. the 350h is a decent enough head, and a 410 is probably going to be able to work for most gigs unless you're very very loud. but the gk amps have a very good sound too, so you might want to get one if that's the sound you're into. as for cabs, whatever you get, if you get two cabs, get two of the same. a lot less potential for headaches with sound goofiness.

as for the china thing, most gk stuff is now made in china, though the original owner is still very much in charge. ampeg did have some problems a couple years ago, but they fired the idiot who was in charge of bungling everything and they're being run much better these days. both companies have very good qc from what i can see.

Thanks for the info Jimmy.
I've always like Ampeg, but really pushing towards the GK.
I'll try some out at the Center, but wanted some pro feedback here first.

Thanks again!
