If it isn't, I'm not getting one. You can get light weight anywhere. That's nothing new anymore. But you can't get THAT sound without big heavy transformers. SMPS is great for a nice light SS micro amp, but you have to have a big heavy power and output transformer for tubes.

The strange thing is B-string 2 really believes that.

Funny thing about 100w tube amps...you can use them for either guitar or bass. They've been teasing bringing back the V4B on Facebook for a few months now, and this is the prototype. They haven't got the head cabinet yet but it's due in any day now. In the meantime, they set it up to play with it and test it.

I don't know what all's in it, but I doubt that it's going to be identical to the original as far as what tubes it has. The preamp of the original uses a 12DW7 and 6K11 along with two 12ax7's and a 12au7. 6k11's are only available NOS and they're expensive, and new 12DW7's suck. But I really don't care what they do as long as it has the sound. The SVT's been redesigned with more available tubes and it still rocks, so I have no doubt they can make a V4B that sounds like a V4B.

If that's the transformer they'll be using for final amp you can bet it won't be as heavy as the original.

I was saving my pennies in the piggy bank for a new PF800 but the V4B is #1 on my GAS list. What should I do?

JUST an SVT??? HOW DARE YOU!!! That is a Heritage SVT-CL and 810e, and as soon as Ampeg's AR guy gets back with me, I will be placing my order for one!

So do we have any idea if the new V4B will be "CL" or "VR"? I recall the V4BH from a few years back being a "CL".

I've been bugging them to make a Heritage V-4B.

Maybe...?

"Heritage" would be super-cool but I'm hoping "VR". Not that a "CL" wouldn't be cool as well, but I'm really looking for that vibe of my old 70s V4B. I'm looking for those Ultra Low, Mid, and Ultra Hi rocker switches...

If you crank the master and use gain to control volume, you'd find very little sonic difference between CL and VR IMHO. Might be a little bit, and I've yet to be able to AB a CL and VR to be able to zero in on differences, but I use rented CL's all the time and I'm very hard pressed to tell any sort of sonic difference.

That's good to know JimmyM. A "CL" V4B works for me then!
Visually, I like the "VR" vibe but of course the tone is #1 criteria. Can't wait to hear the inital review of this amp!
