Question New Amplifier

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

i just bought a new amplifier from a person who lives local. Its a 100W Yamaha 'hundred-115B' combo with a single 15" speaker. I bought it for £50.

The problem is, i really know nothing about the amp as there is no info at all about it online, and yamaha's website had no info either.

Do any of you know anything about the amp? I cant even tell if its a tube amp or not. Im assuming its very old (from the info i could find it seems to be about 25-30 years old.

Any info anyone can offer me on this amp would be very appreciated as i know nothing about it.

Heres a picture so you know what we are dealing with:

Don't believe Yamaha ever made a tube amp. Question is are you happy with it? Thats what counts!

Its great for a £50 amp. Sounds great and its VERY powerful for a 100W combo

Congrates on YOUR NEW AMP!!! I'll guess its a solid state since the back is closed I doubt theres a few tubes hidin' in there. Set the dials flat and your bass wide open and sit down and experiment with low volumes and higher ones. See how the lows react to different volume settings, do the highs cut or are they tinny. How about the mids do they penetrate and add to the throw or do they get boxey sounding. Lots to do with new gear, lots of fun too. Take your time and learn the ins & outs of the amp, and enjoy your new tool. Clean that rig up and get it shinny new. Doc

Thanks

Also, The back is open at the top... i cant see any glowing valves though, but there are two black boxes that i suspect may house the valves D:

Those are probably transformers. Putting tubes enclosed in a box is a very bad idea as the put out a lot of heat. Sorry, as I said before Yamaha was not known for using valves (tubes).

They're 100w solid state amps. Def not tube. IIRC They came out in late '70s, possibly 80, 81 at latest.
