I am intrigued with the sansamp vt, I'm considering running this as a preamp and buying a power amp to power my cab that is rated at 700 watts rms it runs at 4 ohms.

What power amps are good? and what wattage will I need? Will I need a bass DI box?

I run a QSC RMX 850, 850watts bridged @4 ohms into a Avatar 410 Neo. Great amp should give you plenty of power with a little headroom as well. They sell brand new for about $350. If you can wait until July the programmable VT Bass has a DI built into it.

Wouldn't that be too much wattage? My cab is rated at 700 RMS

+1 on the RMX 850, but I've heard good things about Peavey IPR1600...$299 new, 7lbs & 530w @ 4ohms or 800w @ 2ohms ain't too shabby.
