I had one of these years ago and foolishly sold it when my previous band switched to monitors and in ears. But my new band requires a rig so I'm starting over. Luckily my LMS had this one that had been sitting in the store for a while, yadda yadda yadda I got it for about the same price I sold my old one for.
Now all I have to do is decide on what head to use. I'm torn between the SVT Pro 2, 4, or 7. Until I decide I guess my 20 year old Peavey Mark VIII will get dusted off and put back in service.
One question. The back panel says made by St. Louis Music. How old does that make this cab? I thought Loud Tech made the current Ampegs.
I ask because I have a theory of how they got this cab. But I'll wait until I know more about its age.

5th digit in the serial should be a letter...it corresponds to the year like this:
A: 1988
B: 1989
C: 1990
Etc.

When I bought my first AV I had to order one as they didn't have one in stock. Ampeg accidentally sent a Classic. So they placed my order again. When the right cab arrived I bought it and a week later another AV arrived, probably from the original order. And that is the cab I just bought. I can't believe no one bought it all this time.
So in a manner of speaking I either:
bought my first cab's twin or
I bought the cab I ordered in the first place!
Speaking of your Pro 4 how do you like it? I'm in the market for the Ampeg tone but I also like lots of headroom. Do you find that's the main tone difference between the 2 and the 4? They had a 2 in stock and it sounded great but I found it wanted to get dirty a little too quick for my tastes,

Congrats!!!

Enjoy the rig, man!

| | | Excellent choice on the new rig, Modflea! Elegant and Killer!! And blastjv, the only thing better than an Ampeg 810 is two 810s! Played my same SVT 4/SVP 1600 setup last night through the two 810s instead of an 810 and Avatar Neo 410 and even without the Avatar's horn which I use, the band was complimenting me on my noticeably better sound.
Sure feels good (literally) to play a double stack again. Just realized this is my 5th 810! Just ain't no replacement.. |

Also, are these Baltic birch?
