New cab day.. Avatar B212 8 NEO

I got a used 8 ohm Avatar B212 yesterday.

I left it at my church yesterday and went over to the church this morning to play on it.. I like it.. but I hear a slight buzz to it when I really crank the amp up so I may be returning it, It was hard trying to figure out if the buzz was coming from the cab or something around it.. tomorrow morning I am going to tighten up every screw with a screw driver to make sure nothing is loose.. and if I have to I'll return it on Monday if I am not fully satisfied with what I hear.

I got this cab basically to leave at the church so that I can bring in my 6.0 to rehearsals and on Sundays.. The Ampeg they were using for the past 8 years has a blown speaker and I didn't want to use the Hispanic ministries bass players Crate as it is left at the church also and I didn't want to get into a thing where someone from some other ministry (we have @ 5 at my church) uses it and damages it.. That's how the Ampeg got porked, and my La-15 @ 9 years ago, which was why they got the Ampeg in the first place.. I also didn't want to have to lug my Schro in every week... I also wanted to get more real use out of my 6.0 so I saw this cab in a pawn shop going for $289.. I got it for $240 and I figured by just leaving the cab it would be safer..

Overall though I like the cab.. and I think it is the Neo.. it doesn't feel like 70lbs.. (The Neo is 56lbs.. the standard is 70lbs). I was pleased with the way that my 6.0 sounded through it overall.. and I only got that buzz on the G# with the amp and bass pretty much maxed out (slight clip light on the hard hits). Since I never really play that way, or at least I wont at church.. I will try it under dynamic conditions tomorrow.

I don't really hear much difference between my 4 ohm 1212L Schro which I am now seriously thinking about selling and of getting one of those 15" 3 ways when they come out from Avatar... I was pleased with the loudness of my amp. For some reason I thought it wouldn't be as loud as with the 4 ohm cab.. I guess since both speakers are 12s the volume would be very close regardless to the power. .

Well after playing this cab in the service today I think I'll keep it.. It sounded pretty good.. I never even noticed that buzz that I heard when I was pumping it yesterday.... Today we did a few Israel Houghton songs that were pretty demanding but it held up well. I think I'll keep my Schro for now though unless something happens where I wind up taking the Avatars from the church.. then I will rethink that because the Schro is a 4 ohm cab whereas the Avatar is an 8 ohm cab.. I was petty clear in the mix.. not too boomy... I got a lot of compliments today..
