New Cab? Help request

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been gigging alot with a fairly cheap combo (Line6 Lowdown - 150W) and it's been fine up to now. Whenever we've played at larger gigs, I've just hooked it up to the PA. However.. I really feel that it's time to get a lil' more bang for the buck.

I've got around 2000$ to spend, but I was wondering if I could just save some money and just buy a nice Cab and use my Boss GT-10B as the preamp.

Any thoughts/ Suggestions?

if you've got 2000 to spend on some gear you can get yourself a really nice head a cab..you wont get a great sound going through the boss IMO. What kind of stuff do you guys play? Have a look at some of the gallien kruger stuff, a 500w head and a nice 4x10 would probably do the trick.

The thing is, I'm going for versatility as I'll be using it in a few different bands, but mainly Rock, Funk and the usual stuff Top 100 Hits' kinda thing.. The Basses I'll primarily be using will be a Marcus Miller Signature and a newly aquired Sandberg J/M

With that budget, you could get almost any head/cab combo you want. But the Boss Multi won't drive a speaker cab. You'll still need a poweramp that matches the output of the Boss unit. Much better to just look for a good bass head, and a good speaker cab. Don't skimp on the speakers.

The GK stuff is the definition of versatility. Pretty rugged, too. I just dumped my GK Neo 212-II off the back of a stage onto a parking lot and so far so good. I picked that model when I heard someone on the board say theirs survived a fall out of the back of a van at 40MPH.

You have a wide range of power choices and you can go a little older school tech-wise with the RB series or go with the tiny solid state amps with the big output. I use the Neo cab with a 700RB-II. Plenty of BOMP for most gigs I do which are outdoors and hotel main ballrooms typically.

You may also want to consider the Mesa line. A little more expensive and heavy even in Neo incarnation but also powerful, rugged gear.
