New Cabs

Sign in to disble this ad
Well just picked up some new cabs. I have been using a SVT810 or a 410HLF for a while now but my L5 disc (and chiropractor) suggests I do something else. I tried out the Hydrive cabs and I was impressed....and even more when I lifted one and saw the depth of them (will fit in the trunk). I was sold....on top of that I got the 115 for $319 and the 410 for $389 so I couldn't go wrong for the set with tax for $750. They sound great and are incredibly clean bass.....I think I saw one description as "playing through a studio monitor" and I would say this is a valid description of the clarity. I can't wait to get them into practice and hear them in a mix.

Just thought I would share....now I gotta sell the other 2 cabs to pay off the credit card. My back is happy though.

Here is a full rig shot now.....it's growing into a monster. My next venture might be a LH1000 (don't tell the wife).

Please compare tone to your Ampegs. Did you buy new? I'm particularly interested in the 15. Thanks.

The ampegs I did not buy new....however the hydrives are new. Actually they are the FIRST cabs I ever bought new so i was really excited about it.

Well tough to compare 410/115 to the 810. I would say I would give my opinion on the 2 410's but they are different animals too....the HLF is 4ohm and the hydrive is 8ohm. The hydrive 410 is very mid driven and tight/punchy. I think the HLF and the hydrive 115 are very comparable however. The 115 gets the highs of the HLF and retains the clarity.....the HLF however does go low like a 115 but farts out on some of the low B stuff as the 115 doesn't.

I can say this....the hydrive cabs are super clear.....clean bass. They have the tightest low B out of anything I have ever played so far. The SVT810 is a wall of bass that just kills IMO. If I were a rockstar and didn't have to lug the thing around.....I probably would not be looking for anything else (I would have 2). These hydrives are light, tight and can take a ton of power. They are the best thing I can find for the weekend warrior.

I guess if I could sum it up.
Ampeg 810 = awesome mid-range growl
HyDrive 410/115 = clear, very deep and punchy mids

Thanks. I'm gonna add these to my list as I'm in the market.

I'm glad the 410/115 combo are working out for you. When I did it the 115 got completely lost in the 410 and together they just sounded weird. It was a different brand however, those Hydrives you have are much nicer than the junk I had

Maybe go 410 and forget the 15?

If I were to only buy 1....the 410 def. A 410 that can handle 1000 watts rms is impressive I think (esp for the $389 I paid for it). You could always add another 410 or a 115 later if you wanted.

Its a crap shoot when mixing cabs, I've learned this the hard way. If you were to buy two cabs, I would either go with 2 410s or 2 115s. Either way they will work well together.
